Six Sensational Centerpieces For Under $20
Let’s face it. Times are tight. And they can be even tighter when you’re planning a wedding. One of the first areas couples look at when trying to reduce their wedding budget is decorations and flowers. We all know the benefits of beautiful bouquets and centerpieces. But the fact of the matter is that, because they can be costly, they are typically the first thing on the list to go. What a pity. Because there are many ways that you can create beautiful table centerpieces for under $20 that look like you spent much more. All you have to do is take advantage of the old adage that “less is more!”
Pillar Candles – Whether you use one pillar candle or a cluster, you can light up your reception with a beautiful glow. Perfect for late afternoon or evening weddings, they can create a romantic mood without spending much money. Accent your candle centerpieces with some fresh or silk flowers or place them in a pedestal vase for an added touch of elegance and height.
Floating candles – A simple yet elegant design, the container makes all the difference. From decorative bowls to tall cylindrical vases, using a unique or unusual shape can turn things up a notch, creating a contemporary centerpiece that can be re-used for future events (if you happen to be a wedding or event planner) or given to special guests as a thank-you gift.
Pedestal bowls – Candles are the only thing that look stunning floating in a beautiful bowl. Gardenia, Camellia or other large flower blooms drifting across the water’s surface in a pedestal bowl is an inexpensive and elegant addition to your table décor. Clear pedestal bowls can also be filled with items to accent the theme of your wedding. If you’re planning a beach wedding, for instance, fill the bowls with sand and place some assorted shells on top for easy, do-it-yourself, beach centerpieces.
Grow your own – If you happen to have a green thumb or know someone who does, ask them to help cultivate your centerpieces. Floral blooms in a glass vase add color, fragrance and ambiance to your décor. And you don’t even have to be a pro at arranging them. Just place a few hydrangeas, azaleas, dogwoods, roses or magnolias inside for a natural, “fresh-cut” presentation. However, you might want to practice with a few beforehand to be sure you get the look you want.
Branches – For a renaissance or rustic look, try a centerpiece made with branches. Whether you gather them from your yard or purchase them (willow works great for these), spray paint them silver, gold or even white and arrange them in slender vases, adding a trendy touch to your tables.
Potted plants – Small pots of herbs and plants make excellent floral centerpieces that are eco-friendly and easy to dress up. Just wrap them in tulle, choose an unusual pot or add ribbon to a topiary. Consider Caladiums, azaleas, redbuds and other plants with a colorful leaf or bloom.
Regardless of which centerpiece ideas you choose, be creative and consider varying the designs throughout the room. While it’s best to stay within the same color scheme, alternating between tall arrangements, pillar candles and tea lights, for example, can stretch your budget even further.
